Phoenix Rising
Phoenix Rising took place May 17-21, 2007. Please feel free to view this archival version of our website, and to visit the Narrate Conferences, Inc. website for information about future events.

Phoenix Rising's programming focuses on the interdisciplinary study of J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series, with an emphasis on discourse and sharing scholarship between academics, students, professionals, writers, artists, and fans. Programming, for Phoenix Rising, means our schedule of discussion and dialogue that is prepared by attendees for attendees, and that is selected by independent vetting boards who are charged with the responsibility of selecting a balanced and interesting presentation schedule. The programming schedule will include a variety of offerings — including formal lectures, participatory workshops, roundtable discussions, and explorations of craft — that will give attendees the chance to expand their knowledge and understanding of the Harry Potter series.

Beyond this Academic Programming, Phoenix Rising expands upon and supplements the symposium offerings with interactive and hands-on Exploratory Programming. Exploratory Programming will offer a variety of puzzles, craft-based writing and art tasks, and other creative and collaborative activities. A gallery of professional and fan art, along with professional and fan author readings, rounds out the schedule.

In addition, Phoenix Rising invites our Guests of Honor to give special Keynote Presentations that not only take on Harry Potter but put the series into the larger contexts of media and fan culture, folklore, and the arts.
