Phoenix Rising is committed to presenting a balanced and varied selection of programming that addresses the Harry Potter series and its context within academia, the media, fan culture, and beyond. Except where Phoenix Rising has arranged for guest speakers, this programming is drawn from submissions to independent vetting boards. With suggested presentation styles ranging from the traditional to the inventive, scholars, professionals, artists and fans from all educational and professional backgrounds have the opportunity to come together and share their work across disciplines. There will be many opportunities for discussion, debate, and analysis, and attendees may immerse themselves according to their interests.
Presenters are encouraged to address the Harry Potter series broadly or narrowly, to place it within larger contexts, and to collaborate freely. There are no academic, age or affiliation requirements for submission, except that presenters must be old enough to attend Phoenix Rising. Additionally, we have devoted a section of our forums to finding collaborative partners and preparing for presentations. Our Call for Papers is located here and our online submissions system was open from March 31 through 11:59 p.m. Eastern time November 4, 2006.
