Visiting New Orleans

New Orleans is a vivid study in contrasts. Her complicated history created not only her Spanish architecture and her French language, but the uniquely American sound of jazz as well. Her current population is as disparate as any in the United States, and gives rise to her incredible daily movement of life. We encourage you to explore her, from the Vieux Carré to the bayous, from the Marginy to the Garden District. Revel in her clubs to the beat of local musicians or take a cemetery tour and experience her past. Visit Faulkner House Books, on Pirate's Alley, where Faulkner once lived and wrote, or visit pirate Jean Lafitte's Blacksmith's Shop, the oldest continuously operating bar in the United States. Grab some pizza and a daiquiri at a walk-up window, and wander your way through the French Quarter to Café du Monde for beignets, with the Mississippi River on one side and majestic Jackson Square on the other.

This section of our website includes information you might find helpful in planning your trip. Our Activities page details many of the popular attractions of New Orleans, along with contact information. This page is divided into three sections: The French Quarter, which is within walking distance of the Sheraton New Orleans; the Greater New Orleans Area, which includes everything from the art museums and the warehouse district to the tours of the cemeteries, or the Cities of the Dead, and is accessible by public transportation; and Outlying Areas, which will require a car, but are well worth it for the chance to experience the swamps and bayous, and other opportunities, for yourself. We have also provided travel tips such as weather, local transportation and safety, for those looking for that basic information.

Finally, we have created message boards specifically for attendees to use in locating roommates or travel companions. Please feel free to stop by!

Please e-mail us at help@thephoenixrises.org with any questions or concerns you may have about your trip to New Orleans. We couldn't be more excited, and we want to help you make the most of your time here.
